Input and Output Specifications
Power adapters are defined by their input voltage range and output voltage and current specifications. The input voltage range indicates the variation in grid voltage the adapter can accommodate. Meanwhile, the output voltage and current must align perfectly with the connected device. For example, a laptop adapter might offer an output of 19V and 3.42A, equating to approximately 65W of power supply for the laptop.
Efficiency
Efficiency is a critical measure of how well an adapter converts AC to DC, with less energy loss translating to higher efficiency. High-efficiency adapters generate less heat, leading to a longer service life and enhanced performance. Modern power adapters generally exceed 85% efficiency, with some even surpassing 90%.
Power Density
Power density is another crucial metric, reflecting the adapter’s capability to deliver power within a given volume. As electronic devices shrink in size, the demand for high power density adapters is on the rise.
Safety Performance
Safety performance is paramount. A superior power adapter should include features like overload protection, short circuit protection, and overheating protection. These safeguards automatically cut off power in case of malfunction, preventing device damage.
